Time Spent: About 70 hours

Rendered In: Unreal Engine 4

Software Used: 3DS Max, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Unreal Engine 4

The Goal of the Project:

I made this piece for a simulated art test during my final semester at Guildhall. I was told to create the shield from the concept in a realistic and historically accurate style.

I did the research, found my references, broke down my materials, and came up with an approximate schedule. I then proceeded to model, optimize, unwrap, and texture my shield.

I utilized hard surface modeling techniques inside of 3DS Max, notably Crease Sets, and OpenSubDiv to create my high poly. Then proceeded to optimize and unwrap inside of Max. The fabric was sculpted in Zbrush. The rest of the details in the textures were done inside of Substance Painter by hand, utilizing the brushes within Painter and stencils I made in photoshop.
